Accreditation
Accreditation is a rigorous, voluntary process involving extensive self-evaluation by the continuing care retirement community (CCRC), as well as examination by the Continuing Care Accreditation Commission evaluators. Accreditation offers consumers a standard for comparison in evaluating service providers.
In order to earn and maintain accreditation, a retirement community must submit to an on-site evaluation and review of its policies and practices. Communities that undertake the accreditation process make a commitment to achieve higher standards than those required for state licensure. When considering a retirement community, ask if it is accredited.
The Continuing Care Accreditation Commission web site offers a list of all accredited retirement communities nationwide.
